70 x 70cm / alphabetical confetti, paste, plastic wrap
Alphabet makes sense, when it is spelled in a certain order. Otherwise it doesn't have any meanings and cannot be read appropriately. It doesn't make unreadable any more and means a silence.
40 x 40 x 30cm / color pencil
The title means a combination of sounds of pencil's "snapping", "bursting" and "falling", and the form as well as the installation itself expresses these three movements. Its title "Baki-Baan-Barara" helps viewers to imagine the "sounds" visually which cannot be perceived aurally in reality.

cuckoo clock, Pigeon’s ornament, wood, oil-based paint / 18 x 20 x 10cm
Cuckoo clocks from Germany (Switzerland), which tell the time by singing, are known as "pigeon clocks" ※ in Japan.
So I assumed that the voice of the bird is really the sound of pigeons, even though its shape and chirp are obviously of a cuckoo. The name "pigeon" made me believe that pigeons sing, and furthermore the Japanese onomatopoeic words of pigeon's singing affected my perceptions.
So I made the work by crystallizing the images of "pigeon" in order to show the possibilities that a certain sound can be affected and perceived differently by various informations such as assumptions or linguistic expressions formed by memories, experiences, visual elements and illusions.

"Rainy Noise" consists of the situation of water drops falling down from the roof, the sound of its splashing on the roof or ground and "snow noise" ※ played on television. The view from the street, where the work is placed in the courtyard behind the aisle, reminds us of rain.
"Snow noise" is just the combination of noises, but by its visual effects, it blends into the sound of raining. On this work can be experienced, that sounds are perceived not only by the acoustic sense, but also by acoustic illusion affected by visual effects.
※"Snow noise" is a kind of noise phenomena on television, which generates small white flickers on the screen.

„ A sound is perceived the same by everyone, but the feeling, the meaning and the sound (*) are expressed differently in different languages.
“ This work is the introduction to my onomatopoeia series. A perceived sound is expressed totally differently in each language. This works objective is to show that there is a cultural difference between respective sound imitations (onomatopoeia). This will be connected to my theme of “the form of formless sounds”.
* “the sound” here means the imitated sound of nature sounds (noises) which are expressed similarly.

There are some interesting ways to express a sound in Japan. As one of it, we have the socalled "onomatopoeia" peculiar in Japan which expresses a sound in the Japanese language routinely creating a sound-word. For example, expressing sounds in comics, especially in Manga, developed from that. By quoting "onomatopoeia" in a work, I'm looking for a way to enjoy the "form and nature of the sound" visually.
In the work "Be careful !! - Bissha", I assumed the sound derived from an onomatopoeian situation to build a sound-word. By combining the sound of "Bissha" (in it's pronouncable German translation) and the form of the written "ビッシャッ" (the japanese Katakana-writing of the word), I try to let you imagine the sound that you are actually not, hearing". They are made of pencil and the lead of a pencil three-dimensionally
, in order to relate to the planar description in Manga or words. To make it three-dimensionally using a pencil (the tool to draw a line on a plane paper) I create the situation of a material sound. In languages, the onomatopoeian sounds are different and therefore a difference between the verbalization of the sound and the sense occurs. I let the other culture share a Japanese onomatopoeia, and I create a new "form of sound" common mutually.

In this work the image of the sounds and nature noises of the city of Hiroshima, viewed from above, is expressed by drawing the city, the mountains, the movement of the sun or the rain in Japanese onomatopoeia-words two-dimensionally on a glass wall 4 x 10m.
During the period of 4 days again and again it’s painted and erased. The process is filmed to show, how the passing of time, the nature phenomena and the act of drawing are happening at the same time. By repeating the act of drawing the passing of time also is expressed, because the onomatopoeia refers to the sound.
